TBElle: A Brave New World is Here—How Will We Jews Approach It? (Hybrid)

Designer babies? Artificial wombs? Pig organs used in humans? This is not just the stuff of science fiction, these topics were all pulled from current news headlines. In this six-week class led by Carolyn Ringel we will learn about and discuss reproductive ethics, gender ethics, the ethics of death and dying, animal ethics, and other “hot topics” in bioethics. We will wrestle with these issues from our own personal moral code and look at what Judaism has to say on these topics.

This course follows a sequential structure, but anyone is welcome to join at any point, or to drop in to any class. If you have questions regarding participation, please contact the program leader.

Carolyn Baker Ringel has a law degree and a master’s degree in bioethics, and has taught, written, and presented at workshops about navigating ethical issues in the healthcare setting.

Dates & Time: Tuesdays, April 30, May 7, 14, 21 & 28, June 4, 10:00-11:15 am
